Raya and The Last Dragon
Poster Illustrations
I drew the first poster (left) shortly after the film’s first trailer was released, and was partly inspired by a tapestry that appeared in it. I enjoyed working in flat vectors, which allowed me to experiment with different shape languages for different sections of the piece, while still grounding the entire composition in a 2-dimensional space.
I began working on the second poster as soon as I saw the film, and while I had the composition planned out from the start, it took me a while to decide on an art style. I ended up drawing the design in a hybrid style that allowed me to seperate areas into blocks of color as well as add shading details in other areas.
My first poster was liked on Twitter by Adele Lim, the film’s screenwriter, and my second poster was voted as a runner-up to Alternative Movie Posters’ “Poster of the Week” title.
